"Have patience with all things, but first with yourself. Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a Human Being. You're perfectly valuable, creative, worthwhile person, simply because you EXIST."

Thank you for viewing my profile

My name is Carol Gordon and I am a qualified professional Person-Centred/Humanistic/Integrative Counsellor Psycotherapist and Clinical Supervisor (MBACP, Dip Couns, Cert Couns) based in quiet scenic residential area of Ravensbourne Park, SE London. I am registered with the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) for which I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice produced by the BACP. I also have regular supervision of my work in line with BACP Guidelines. I have been a practising counsellor since 2009. I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy, which is a talking therapy, in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I would describe myself as deeply empathic, respectful, non-judgemental, warm and caring and completely down to earth.

What is Counselling?
Counselling and psychotherapy is a helping process, involving a confidential talking relationship between the therapist and the client, in a safe, trusting, respectful, non-judgmental and confidential environment. Within the alliance, you will have a sense of working together rather than the counsellor being in charge. I will support you sensitively and honestly in what you are going through. Exploring painful experiences, your existence, understanding your thought processes, behaviours and feelings, enabling you to manage your life in the here and now more effectively and satisfactorily as you discover more about yourself, your journey, other people, and the experience of your world around you.

Choosing the right Counsellor
I understand that it can be a daunting experience to seek counselling and choosing the right person for you can prove difficult.
Counselling can help you explore how your low self-confidence which may have evolved from your earlier childhood experiences or more recent events, affect how your day-to-day life is being distorted and how you would like things to change.

Let me explain a little more - Self-esteem is how you think and feel about yourself. This may be positive, negative, or move between the two points. This usually dictates how you live your life and the decisions you make aswell as how you view others. The more positive feelings you have about yourself, the higher your self-esteem will be. The more negative feelings you have, the lower your self-esteem.

Fundamentally, at the start of our relationship, we respect and establish the contractual boundaries of confidentiality, time, number of sessions, as well as my central role which will be to facilitate you in getting to know yourself. I value each person’s uniqueness and respond empathically and genuinely without judgement. The focus will be on the process of facilitating your empowerment/your growth. Like everything in life there are no guarantees, but if you are self-motivated and willing to open up and see what is underlying, however painful, then this is the start of your positive journey which will then become transparent and less problematic/painful.

I am also aware that in terms of life/work balance, having counselling face-to-face can be quite difficult and perhaps telephone counselling/Skype/Outreach Home Visits/Walk and Talk Therapy could be the way forward for you. I welcome, value, and embrace diversity.

Initially, we engage in therapy within a consulting room; but there are time where I feel that the client may be stuck, and in order to establish further growth in terms of reducing anxiety and depression, I feel this form of therapy is particularly beneficial for mild to medium depression, anxiety, grief, mental distress and emotional crisis, particularly in the summer months. Side by side, walking in the open air can create a sense of well-being and feeling refreshed. This in turn, allows for some of that nervous energy to be regulated and to dissipate. Of course this will be and option with your given consent. There will be places and times for you, to be able to choose a place to sit and reflect with me
However, the primary benefit from Walk and Talk therapy is the talking therapy, combining the counselling with exercise as it further boosts serotonin levels, these are linked to reducing anxiety and depression, hence provides a unique holistic dimension to therapy.
